An important part of any diagnostic set, an ophthalmoscope is used to check the back of the eyes.  These are 2 key types of ophthalmoscopes - the traditional direct standard attachment and Welch Allyn PanOptic head. Each of these also comes in several editions that provides different specs even within the same type. Generally speaking, the standard direct ophthalmoscope applies a halogen light to illuminate the cornea for real tissue color and a polarizing filter to virtually illuminate corneal reflection. The filters and apertures can be combined in different pairs to check different parts of the eye.  Anyway, the number of filters, apertures, and lenses that come with the standard direct attachment change depending on how advanced it is. The PanOptic attachment are more costly, but also a lot more strong. This design uses a patented latest design known as Axial PointSource optics which permits the users to more simply enter little pupils. The technology also offers a field of view of the fundus that is 5 times bigger than ever before achieved with a standard ophthalmoscope in an undilated eye. PanOptic ophthalmoscope uses LED light gathered with a half-moon or slit aperture to illuminate the eye. The tub of the device permits you to work 6 inches from the patient’s eye for better comfort. Latest versions also added red-free and cobalt-blue filters. The standard direct ophthalmoscope and Diagnostix 5412 ADC Ophthalmoscope is generally fine for nurses, doctors and other clinicians just starting out, but those expert in ophthalmology practices  many want to consider upgrading to a PanOptic attachment.
